Growing Instructions for the Tree Rhododendron

The seeds like moist, well-drained soil. 1. Fill a container with milled sphagnum peat moss. Use a container that has drainage holes in the base. 2. Water the peat moss. 3. Place the seeds on the surface of the peat moss. Lightly press them into the surface of the moss. The seeds need light to germinate. 4. The seeds need relatively steady humidity. If you are in a drier climate, put the container in a plastic bag to keep the air humid for the seeds. 5. Place the container in an area with full sun. The seeds usually take 3-4 weeks to germinate but they may sometimes take longer than that to sprout. The seedlings need consistent moisture and good air circulation. 6. Transplant the seedlings into pots with potting soil for rhododendrons and azaleas 8 to 10 weeks after they germinate.
